An Illustrated Monthly
The Savoy An Illustrated Monthly
Leonard Smithers, 1896.
Blue wrappers with design by Beardsley on the upper cover. Title page design and two drawings by Beardsley. Drawings by other artists including four by William Blake. Articles and poems by Beardsley, Yeats and Symons. In very good condition, with some chipping to the spine ends and slightly ragged fore-edge.
Beardsley and Arthur Symons collaborated to create a "new kind of magazine, which was to appeal to the public equally in its letterpress and its illustrations" and the first volume of The Savoy was published in January 1896. The declared intent of the editors was that the new magazine should be 'a manifesto in revolt against Victorian materialism'.
