Finely bound in full calf by Riviere and Sons, with raised bands to spine with morocco title label, lettered in gilt. Gilt scrolls and snowflake motif to the sections. Gilt heraldic vignettes and ornamental borders to the boards. Gilt dentelles with marbled end papers. All edges gilt. Eton presentation page bound in and completed in manuscript by Eton Headmaster and noted rower, Edmond Warre, presented to W.F.D. Smith in 1887. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Gray with three further engraved plates. A very good copy of a handsome binding, with minor scuffs to the calf.
Includes Gray's "Elegy written in a Church Yard" and the poet's reverie of his schooldays at Eton in "Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College".
