Bound with: HENLEY, A POEM
Hickman and Stapledon, 1850.
Two works, both first editions, both printed in Henley on Thames, bound together. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Folding engraved frontispiece to each volume. Engraved title page to the Guide and eight plates containing fourteen engraved views of Henley and its environs. A very good copy indeed, the binding sometime neatly rebacked, internally fresh.
The first edition of the Henley Guide, which predates the regatta, gives a fascinating account and history of Henley and its surrounding villages in the early nineteenth century. Both it and the first edition of Henley, A Poem, issued by the same publisher's a year later, are rare.
