Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Harrap, 1910.
First edition. 4to. Green cloth decorated with embossed gilt lettering, decorations in gilt, brown, and green. Bevelled edges. Top edge gilt. Every page, including the endpapers, is elaborately decorated in Pogany's distinctive style, with black and white decoration, two colour tints, and twenty tipped-in colour plates. A near fine copy minor wear to spine ends and a fold to the second plate, otherwise bright.
This is a beautiful and elaborately decorated book, entirely designed by Pogany and often considered his masterpiece. The ethereal nature of the colour plates perfectly interpret the supernatural nature of the poem.
