First edition. 8vo. Red cloth with black lettering and orange illustration. Pictorial endpapers with olive line drawings. Eight full page colour plates, some silhouette drawings and many line drawings (some full page). A fine, bright copy, with a neat contemporary gift inscription to an initial blank page.
There is a two page preface to this book written by Arthur Rackham in which he explains how he has chosen the fairy tales in this book. The tales are a selection of well known fairy tales; including, Sindbad the Sailor, Aladdin, Dick Whittington, Jack the Giant Killer, Cinderella and the Emperor's New Clothes. Although some of the stories have been previously illustrated by Rackham, all the illustrations for this book are new and have never been published before.
