Three Autograph Letters Signed
1949.
Three short autograph letters written in ink to his publishers:1. ALs dated 21.2.1949 to Messrs Allen & Unwin, a short note mentioning an enclosed blurb for "The Reith Lectures". Russell notes it is "170 words, which is longer than you wanted but you may omit anything you like". 2. ALs dated 14.8.52 advising a "Mr [Leslie] Smith" on copyright photographs. Russell says he has "no non-copyright photographs" but mentions a photographer called Baron who has some "excellent photographs" which he likely "allows reproduced for a fee".3. A very short covering note to dated 19 sept. 1956, simply stating "Returned with thanks" and signed by Russell on "Plas Penrhyn" (his home in North Wales from 1955-his death in 1970) stationary. Very good condition, small creases to the top corners of letter no' 3 and a short closed tear to the central fold of letter no' 2.
Letters from the Nobel Laureate, philosopher, mathematician and social reformer Bertrand Russell. He was the first lecturer for the BBC Radio 4 Reith lectures in 1948, which aimed "to enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the nation".
The "Baron" he refers to may be the 1950s photographer Sterling Henry Nahum, a society and court photographer, best known for photographing film stars, dancers, and even the royal family.
