First English edition, second issue of Swiss Family Robinson. 8vo. Bound in full twentieth century tan calf by Bayntun-Riviere, gilt titles and marbled endpapers. Editor's note present at rear. Frontispiece and three plates engraved by Springsguth and Dadley after Henry Corbould. A very good copy.
Originally published in German in 1812, under the title "Der Sweitzerische Robinson" this is the first translation of this tale. There are two issues of this edition, a two volume edition and this one volume edition in which the pagination runs continuously.
