Frankenstein
Colburn & Bentley, 1831.
First illustrated edition (third edition overall). Half bound in navy blue morocco with raised bands and gilt titles to spine. Frontispiece and engraved title page. A trace of rubbing to the corners of the binding, internally very clean. A very good copy indeed.
This edition, published as part of Bentley's Standard series, follows the first edition of 1818 and a reprint of 1823, had been revised and corrected and contains a new introduction by the author. The frontispiece after Theodore von Holst represents the first depiction of the monster. It is also the first edition to bear the author's name.
