Large 4to. Contemporary full morocco binding, tooled decorative gilt borders and vignettes to covers, raised bands to spine, lettered in gilt, with elaborate gilt decorations to the compartments. Decorative metal corners and metal clasps. All edges gilt. Sixteen black and white engravings, of which five are in colour, and two colour maps, with numerous line drawings throughout the text. Nine full-colour pages to the preliminaries, including an elaborate title page, Family Register and Family Portrait Gallery. An attractive copy in very good condition, some rubbing to the corners of the spine and joints, some browning and light scattered foxing to plates, the clasps intact. Preliminaries left blank.
