He Knew He Was Right
Strahan & Co., 1869.
First edition. Two volumes. 8vo. Publisher's original green cloth with gilt titles on the spine and decoration blind stamped to each board. Bound from the parts, with blank half title leaf in each volume. Thirty-two steel engraved plates by Marcus Stone, with further thirty-two engravings in the text. A very good set indeed, which just shows a little surface wear to the spine ends and joints, but a bright crisp set. Internally very clean, with occasional scattered foxing.
Originally issued in 32 weekly parts from October 1868 to May 1869 and issued in book form with the last serial issue. This copy appears to have been bound up from the weekly parts rather than the separately printed sheets, which is not mentioned in Sadleir's bibliography.
