First collected edition, comprising primarily of the second edition of The Natural History of Selborne. Two volumes, uncut in original publisher's grey boards, with paper spines and spine labels. Four plates, two of which are hand coloured including a pullout frontispiece to volume II. A very good set with wear to the edges of the boards. Spines some time renewed to match the original, front joint of vol. I splitting. Internally very clean with most of vol. II unopened.
White's Natural History of Selborne, first published in 1789 is described as "probably the most famous work on natural history by an Englishman of this period...(it)... needs no recommendation, and its text has inspired numerous illustrators."
