Methuen and Charles Carrington, 1908.
First collection edition of Oscar Wilde's works. 8vo. Fourteen volumes. One of 1,000 sets printed on handmade paper. In the publisher's white buckram lettered in gilt and decorated with Charles Rickett's gilt designs from De Profundis. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. A very good set indeed, with a little toning to some of the spines, and a blue mark to the spine of a couple volumes. A handsome set.
Following the publishing success Methuen and Wilde's estate had had with the publication of De Profundis three years earlier, they issued this the first collected edition of Wilde's works, under the editorship of Robert Ross in 1908.
It was originally sold as sets, with the first six volumes published in February, the next five in March and the final two in October. Charles Carrington, who held the copyright of Dorian Gray, published that volume in uniform style in the April.
