Born in Scotland, Anne grew up in Argentina and settled in Burghfield Common, Berkshire, when she married Alan Wright, with whom she collaborated in many books for children. (He drew the animals and birds in her compositions – but did it so well it is difficult to see who drew what)
Influenced by the Art Nouveaux style of Jessie King, she produced bright yet delicate artwork perfect for the children’s books she illustrated, her best known work probably being the Fairy Stories of Hans Anderson and the Brothers Grimm.
In addition to illustrating over 100 books for children, she was also an etcher, watercolour painter and designer of greeting cards.
