silver, shining, fresh run from the sea
1961.
A delightful original scraperboard illustration. 24 x 20cm. Signed and dated in the lower right hand corner and annotated to the rear. A magnificent image of a salmon leaping. In very good condition indeed.
From p. 59, chapter 6 of The Birds of the Lonely Lake, published by Ernest Benn in 1961. "Then, apparently from the very spot where they had pitched, a huge salmon leapt. It was silver-shining and fresh run from the sea."
The Birds of the Lonely Lake is a description of bird life during a typical year, when BB was in charge of a bird sanctuary on the shores of Lake Coniston.
