First edition. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering and vignettes of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh on the upper cover, in the original pictorial dustwrapper. Top edge gilt. The pictorial endpapers show a map of "100 Aker Wood" and the book is illustrated throughout with the unmistakable line drawings of E.H. Shepard. An excellent, fine copy, with a contemporary gift inscription to the half title, in a crisp, very near fine dustwrapper, unblemished but for a small red mark to the lower panel.
On its publication in 1926 Winnie the Pooh was met with enthusiastic reviews. The Herald Tribune wrote, "There are not so many books that, sitting reading them alone, you find yourself laughing aloud over. This is one of them." Other rave reviews described the book as, "the perfect book for children" and "a children's book of the season that seems certain to stay."
