The Presidential Address delivered to the Classical Association on 15 April 1942
The Classics and the Man of Letters The Presidential Address delivered to the Classical Association on 15 April 1942
Oxford University Press, 1942.
First edition. Pale-blue paper wrappers printed in black. Signed by Eliot on the title page. A very good copy indeed, with a small nick to the spine.
This essay, taken from an address Eliot gave to the Classical Association, argues for the reinvigoration of classical education to stop the decline in literary critical standards. This copy is one of the first printed of the edition, preserving the 't' of 'the' on the title page, "in later copies the letter registers so weakly as almost to disappear" (Gallup). Uncommon signed.
