A Visit to Morin
Heinemann, 1959.
First edition in book form. One of only 250 copies printed for distribution by the author. Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles in printed dustwrapper. Inscribed by Greene to Lady Diana Cooper on the front free endpaper "For Diana, with love and good wishes for Christmas 1960. From Graham". A fine copy in a very good dustwrapper indeed, which has some light toning to spine and front panel margins.
Lady Diana Cooper and Graham Greene were longtime friends, initially introduced by their mutual friend Evelyn Waugh. She later wrote in a letter to her son John Julius Norwich "I think [Graham] is a good man possessed of a devil and that Evelyn contrary to this a bad man for whom an angel is struggling."
A Visit To Morin was first published in the London Magazine and then in this edition of 250 copies, which were distributed as gifts to Graham Greene's friends at Christmas 1960. Both Waugh and Cooper received copies as Christmas presents from Greene. This prompted Cooper, on 4th January 1961, to write to Waugh asking "Please tell me what you think about Graham Greene's book. Is Morin himself?" (The Letters of Evelyn Waugh & Diana Cooper)
