The Wind in the Willows Illustrations by Paul Bransom.
Methuen, 1913.
First UK edition illustrated by Bransom. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering on spine and upper cover, black and white vignette on upper cover. Top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Pictorial endpapers and 10 colour plates by Paul Bransom, as well as Graham Roberston's original black and white frontispiece. A very good copy indeed.
This is the first illustrated version of Grahame's tales of the river bank. The first edition of the book has only the frontispiece by Robertson and no other illustrations. Bransom is the first of many to enjoy the role of illustrator.
