Gollancz/ Left Book Club 1937.
First edition, Left Book Club issue. Orange wrappers lettered in black. A very good copy indeed.
Spender's Forward from Liberalism (1937) was perhaps one of the Left Book Club's most noteworthy publications, discussing the common ground of classic liberalism and socialism, and describing the authors views on communism and on avoiding the danger of fascism. A book club membership form loosely inserted, reminding members that the special left book club editions cost members just 2/6d, whereas the cloth bound editions on general sale will be much more, not less than 5/-. Also stating the aims of the Left Book Club as, "to help in the terribly urgent struggle for World Peace & a better social and economic order & against Fascism."
