In the Years 1817, 1818
Journey From Moscow to Constantinople In the Years 1817, 1818
John Murray, 1819.
First edition. 4to. Later half-calf, with raised bands and gilt lettering to the spine, and marbled boards. Six aquatint colour plates by the author. A very good copy indeed, with occasional very light foxing.
William Macmichael was primarily a physician, whose medical biography The Golden-Headed Cane was printed long into the twentieth century.
Having studied medicine at Edinburgh, following three degrees at Oxford, Macmichael was elected a Radcliffe travelling fellow in 1811. Over the next six years "he made several journeys in Greece, Russia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Palestine; these were vividly described in his Journey From Moscow To Constantinople". (ODNB)
