FIRST ILLUSTRATED WIND IN THE WILLOWS
The Wind in the Willows
Methuen, 1913.
First UK edition illustrated by Bransom. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering on spine and upper cover, black and white vignette on upper cover, in rare original brown printed dustwrapper with colour pictorial onlay. Top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Pictorial endpapers and ten colour plates by Paul Bransom, as well as one in black and white by Graham Robertson. A near fine copy, small piece of lower corner missing from front endpaper, in a very good dustwrapper indeed.
This is the first illustrated version of Grahame's tales of the river bank. The first edition of the book has only the frontispiece by Robertson and no other illustrations. Bransom is the first of many to enjoy the role of illustrator.
