Dickson was a colonial adminstrator in the Persian Gulf, serving in Bahrain, Persian and Kuwait over a long career. A blend of description and reminiscence, Dickson's work both covers the sweeping history of the region from the 1740s to the 1950s, as well as the disappearing local customs in the Gulf.
