Fifth edition, in original format. 8vo. Green cloth with gilt lettering and vignettes of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh on the upper cover. Top edge gilt. The pictorial endpapers show a map of "100 Aker Wood" and the book is illustrated throughout with the unmistakable line drawings of E.H. Shepard. A near fine, bright clean copy.
On its publication in 1926 Winnie the Pooh met with enthusiastic reviews. The Herald Tribune wrote, "There are not so many books that, sitting reading them alone, you find yourself laughing aloud over. This is one of them." Other rave reviews described the book as, "the perfect book for children" and "a children's book of the season that seems certain to stay." They could not have been more right. For the past 90 years the popularity of this charming bear has never wavered.
