Full deep red morocco, lettered and ruled in gilt, gilt armourial crest to the upper cover, raised bands and gilt decorations to the spine, and elaborate gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Photogravures and black and white photographic illustrations throughout. A very good copy, some wear to the spine ends and corners and spine colouring uneven. A handsome production, gilt bright and gleaming.
This monumental work looks at the pioneers in the fields of transport, motoring and aviation. The Transport section includes the history of shipping by land and by sea and the growth of railways. Motoring includes, for example, the development and growth of Rolls Royce, Leyland and Sunbeam Racing Cars. The history of Aviation looks at, among others, Sopwith (including the "Camel"), Vickers, Bleriots, and Handley Page. Also included are reviews of finance, insurance and commercial communications. Details of notable figures within each industry are also given.
