First edition. Original green cloth with gilt lettering on the upper cover and spine in pictorial dustwrapper. Pictorial endpapers and many black and white drawings by the author. A fine copy in a very good dustwrapper indeed with slight fading to the spine and minor wear to the spine ends, the head of the spine needlessly reinforced.
The first recipient of the Carnegie Medal, which is now awarded annually to the writer of an outstanding book for children.
