First edition. 4to. Original maroon cloth titled in gilt on the spine and upper cover. Photogravure frontispiece and thirty two plates of black and white photographs plus two fold out maps to rear. A near fine copy, with the slightest fading to the spine, some spotting to the page edges and browning to the endpapers. This notwithstanding, a bright and attractive copy of a book difficult to find in nice condition.

Bruce's famous account on his leading of the first attempt to scale Everest, which had to be abandoned when an avalanche killed seven Sherpa.
