First edition illustrated by Pogany. Large 4to. The original green cloth is decorated with embossed gilt lettering and decorations are in gilt, brown and green. Top edge gilt. From endpaper to endpaper each page is elaborately decorated in Pogany's distinctive style. The beautiful calligraphic text is set within decorative borders, there are twenty mounted colour plates, plus numerous line drawings and two tone plates. A very good copy, all plates bright and crisp. Some light marks to boards.
This is a beautiful and elaborately decorated book, entirely designed by Pogany and often considered his masterpiece. The ethereal nature of the colour plates perfectly interpret the supernatural nature of the poem.
