JESSIE M. KING'S OWN BOOKPLATE

An unused example of Jessie M King's own bookplate. 10 x 10.5cm. Printed in black the image shows two of Jessie's rabbits playing on a tuft of grass in front of the sea. the rabbits are guarded by a willowy angel who looks on from the side and a blue bird flies low on the right hand side of the image. Jessie's stencilled lettering says simply "Wilding Things- Jessie M King." In very good condition, with just a little wear to the margins, image itself not affected.
Agnes Harvey was part of Jessie's circle of artist friends during her years at the Glasgow School of Art. Harvey studied silver-smithing in London before returning to teach at GSA and eventually joining the artist's colony in Kircubright. The two women remained friends throughout their adult life, with Jessie sending Agnes inscribed copies of most of her major books. Agnes was known particularly for her decorative metalware, enamels and beaten copper work.
PROVENANCE: Agnes Bankier Harvey, fellow Glasgow School Artist and Kirkcudbright resident, sold with her effects at Sotheby's in May 1982.
