Thirteen colour plates, 19 full page black and white illustrations and numerous drawings in the text. A near fine copy, bright and sharp, with some light foxing to page edges and preliminary pages. Contemporary ownership inscription to initial blank.
Includes all the favourite fables, and is beautifully illustrated by Rackham, whose "primary intention was to amuse" and who included several self-caricatures - "he is the man who catches the flea, the pompous gentleman who scolds the drowning boy" [Hudson] amongst others.
