First edition. 8vo. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration, and design stamped in blind on the spine and upper cover. Top edge gilt. Seventy two colour illustrations under captioned tissue guards, plus 20 small line drawings in the text. A very good copy, with some marking to the upper panel and a little browning to the endpapers.

A short history of the Indian Army during the British Empire - from the army of the East India Company, through the great Mahratta wars, the mutiny and the state of the army in 1911. Includes information on uniforms, customs and traditions.
