From the Imperial War Museum, London
The First World War in Posters From the Imperial War Museum, London
Dover Publications, Inc., 1974.
First edition. Folio. Original pictorial card wrappers. Presentation copy from Darracott to Ardizzone - "For Catherine and Edward Ardizzone with all good wishes from Joseph Darracott, Christmas 1974." Seventy five illustrations, including 48 in full colour of "the best posters of World War One". A very good copy, corners bumped.
Darracott was Keeper of Art, Imperial War Museum, 1969 - 1983, in which capacity he would undoubtedly have met Ardizzone, who had been a WWII official war artist. Most of Ardizzone's 400 sketches and watercolours of the war were given to the Imperial War Museum and in 1974 Ardizzone also donated his wartime diaries to the museum.
PROVENANCE: From the library of Edward Ardizzone, by family descent.
