Introduction by Thomas Bodkin.
The Fairy Tales of Perrault Introduction by Thomas Bodkin.
Harrap, 1922.
First edition. 4to. In publisher's deluxe binding of pale blue moiré silk with gilt titles. Twelve full page colour plates and twelve stunning black and white plates. Frontis bound before contents page rather than in usual position. A very good copy indeed, slight dustiness to the spine and page 131 and 133 with light crease to margins, not affecting text or illustrations. Charming contemporary bookplate to front endpaper.
This is one of the most sought after of Clarke's works. Containing such popular fairy tales as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, its illustrations have a magical quality. Clarke's style, very reminiscent of Nielsen, is seen at its best, with the combination of colour and black and white. There are no UK reprints of this title nor was a limited edition printed.
