The fairy tales in this volume were collected and published by Neapolitan, Giambattista Basile in the 17th century. The stories had a Europe-wide influence, and were an acknowledged source for both Charles Perrault, and the Brothers Grimm. Strongly influenced by Oriental art, Goble's illustrations are extremely subtle and very charming.
