This is a long war... but we must be thankful not to be as other countries
Autograph Letter Signed
1943.
A two page letter on both sides of a single sheet, signed H.B. Heelis, written to Charles Forrester, a Carlisle cattle farmer. With original envelope.
Mrs Heelis likes her bull now at Troutbeck Park, "he is a beautiful beast, particularly well set up on his legs; should get clean active heifers". "I have had to plough the bull park much to inconvenience", and the aggressive temperaments of some of her bulls, "We must not have another fight, I once saw an amusing fight; the little galloway knelt down and pummelled the white one from beneath under the ribs, the shorthorn would not fight...". Her health, "I soon got rid of flu - and we are both well.". She finishes with a ps on the war, written sideways in the margin, "This is a long war... but we must be thankful not to be as other countries, and I do think there is a better prospect for farming than last time."
