The ELM Press, 1996.
One of ten artist's proof copies, signed by the artist. The personal copy of Ted Hughes, with a note from Enid Mark to Hughes, thanking him for his contribution to this book. Folio. Bound in a chemise of stiffened black Tiziano paper, the title stamped in silver to the upper cover, calligraphed by Jerry Kelly. Printed on Arches Velin paper, unopened and untrimmed. Housed in the original black clamshell box, stamped in silver to the spine, with an inlaid pane of cracked glass to the upper cover, echoing the lithographs. Ten lithographs by the artist Enid Mark, an intimate friend of Sylvia Plath's at Smith College in the 1950s. A fine copy.
A very limited issue of ten poems about Sylvia Plath, selected and with lithography by her college classmate and collaborator Enid Mark. In addition to the fifty copies printed for sale, Mark had ten artist's proofs printed, presumably one for each living contributing poet and the remaining four being for her personal use. She sent the present copy to Ted Hughes in May 1997.
PROVENANCE: Ted Hughes, thence by descent.
