Haunting Edinburgh

First edition. 8vo. Finely bound in full navy grained morocco. To the upper cover is a "Chivers" style hand painted oval panel depicting Edinburgh Castle and both the spine and boards are decorated with gilt embossed rules and vignettes. Silk doublures and decorative leather turn ins. Sixteen lovely watercolours of Edinburgh scenes and six monochrome drawings by Kate Cameron, as well as 8 other drawings. A fine copy.
The binding is unsigned, but bound in at the front pastedown is a notice stating that this book was the first issued after the opening of the Fountainbridge Public Library on 11th March 1940. Fountainbridge Library was officially opened by Provost Henry Steel and the Provost promptly 'borrowed' the first book from the library, choosing 'Haunting Edinburgh' by Flora Grierson.
