Catalogue 76: A Miscellany Of Rare Books

The miscellany presented over the pages of this catalogue encapsulates all of our interests, and we hope some of yours, with books taking you from Baghdad to Middlemarch through the Hundred Acre Wood and Wonderland.

Our section on travel & exploration (p. 4) includes Ackermann’s great Microcosm of London and stunning cartography, as well as fine and important works on Britain, Asia, Russia, The Middle East and Polar Exploration. These are followed by a collection of sporting books (p. 12) with an emphasis on a recently acquired family collection of golf books.

The pen of Winston Churchill features heavily among our History, Politics and Economics books (p. 21) with first editions of almost all of his major works. Our illustrated and private press section includes wonderful original artwork as well as stunning copies of some of the most treasured illustrated books, including those by Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen and Heath Robinson.

As ever we have a delightful range of children’s books with beautiful first editions by favourites such as Beatrix Potter, Arthur Ransome, and A. A. Milne, as well as playful cameos from Raymond Briggs and Captain W. E. Johns. Our selection of literature from the 19th and 20th centuries begins with George Eliot and Elizabeth Gaskell and features signed books by T. S. Eliot, Philip Larkin and Graham Greene.

We hope that you these books show all that we do, and hope you find something among them. They are, however, only a selection from books in the shop, so if there is anything you’re still looking for, do not hesitate to get in touch, or come and see us on Hart Street.
